Decaffeinating copy-editor
With the dawning of the day comes the dawning of understanding.
Uh, Shira?
Yeah?
Exactly how many times did you hit the candy machine at the office for chocolate to keep you awake yesterday ?
Oy, don’t ask.
Ok, I’m not asking, I’m telling: More sleep, less caffeine—no chocolate for you until your heart stops racing. Which, if memory of previous experience serves me correctly, should be about four days.
Four days without chocolate??!! What are you trying to do, kill me??!!
Well, actually . . . Do you remember that verse “U-r’é vanim l’vanecha—You will see your child’s children?”
Shutting up now.
Caffeine withdrawal commencing.
Sigh.

I gave up coffee for 2 months and didn't miss it. Now I'm slowly slipping back into old habits, mainly from boredom, like when I'm in a long meeting.
I am weak.
check it out -- chocalate is pretty low on the caffeine scale...are you sure that is the cause? considering what's at stake, i'd search hard for the real cause.
Eliyah, the connection is clear enough that I think it unlikely that there could be any other reason (and yes, I've been to ye friendly local cardiologist, just in case). The fact is that my heart races when I have a lot of chocolate--and stops racing after I've been off it for several days.
Mirty, you're smart to limit your caffeine intake. Mark/PT and I are simply going to have to follow your example.
Mark, remember what I said about "u-'rei vanim l'vanecha? Nu, do you want to play with The PT's kids, or not? Let's make a deal: I'll try not to eat more than 2 servings of chocolate (bars, schmars--M & M peanuts are best, because they don't melt all over the keyboard) per day, and you try to keep it down to not more than 2 cups of coffee per day. If you're bored during meetings, have herb tea instead. (Don't you just love it when the patients start giving medical advice to the doctor? :) )
That is ok, I'll eat your share too.
Enjoy. . .if you can afford the calories. :)
